String Theory and Branes (STandB | INK7034P)

Description: The main aim of the course is to give a first introduction to string theory which can be used as a basis for undertaking research in this and related subjects. Topics will include the following: classical and quantum dynamics of the point particle, classical and quantum dynamics of strings in spacetime, D-branes, the spacetime effective action, and compactification of higher dimensions.
